Focus on coil processing
aimed at those charged with reducing the cost
A ‘pre-painted’ pe rspective
while improving the quality, reliability and
repeatability of their coating process.
In his speech, he examined the link between
coating material temperature and coating mate-
rial viscosity; the effects of coating material tem-
perature variations on the coil coating process;
sources of coating material temperature vari-
ations; benefits of stabilizing coating material
temperature; factors to keep in mind when try-
ing to control coating material temperature and
operational improvements and cost reductions
that can be linked directly to a temperature
control project.
This presentation was the result of over two
years of intense research and development in
the coil coating field and contained many inno-
vative alternative concepts backed by a host of
real-world data.
Dr. Kai K.O. Bär, Advanced Photonics
Technologies Steel GmbH, spoke to the ECCA
audience about colour coil coating on demand.
It recently completed the start up of a high
capacity production (100 t/h) coil coating line
- the high speed inline paint section (combina-
tion of HDG and continuous colour coating
section) has been successfully completed. It
also launched what it termed as the ‘first fully
NIR-based high speed CCL’.
“Thanks to our NIR-instantaneous curing prin-
ciple, scrap-free coating on demand can now
be achieved,” the company told ISMR. “We
demonstrated in the presentation that, even for
small capacity facilities and down stream proc-
esses (like cut-to-length, slitting or roll forming
lines), an on-demand colour coating scenario is
now possible.”
Building and Construction
ECCA’s MC-5 Residential Roofing project (led
by Carine Bouichou of Arcelor Mittal) has, as its
objective, building awareness of coated metal
roofs in Europe. It intends to launch a new
