Peermont interested in Royal Swazi Spa Peermont Global has offered to buy a stake in Sun International’s Royal Swazi Spa resort. Sun announced earlier this year that it wanted to sell the loss-making venue. Peermont CEO Anthony Puttergill said: “We have expressed our interest. We are part of a consortium together with African Alliance, a fund management company in Swaziland, to acquire a minority interest and the management contract.” Several other companies are also interested in acquiring the resort, it has been reported.
Grand Gaming Slots in Gauteng added R3m (E294,000) to the total rev- enues. For GPI as a whole, large
increases in the cost of doing business together with only a marginal increase in its share of profits from invest- ments, joint ventures and associates, as well as an impairment charge of R113.5m (E11.1m) saw the company report a net loss of R22.7m (E2.2m) compared to net profit of R104.7m (E10.3m) in 2010. At the Annual General Meeting in September, the company received approval for the restructuring of its relationship with Sun Inter- national and the sale of shares in SunWest, Worces- ter and Real Africa Holdings: the company will receive a combined consideration of R717.8m (E70.3m) for the shares while retaining 25.1 per cent interests in both SunWest and Worcester. It will also gain R67.4m (E6.6m) from the cancella- tion of existing management contracts held by Sun Inter- national.
Chinese want to build Maputo trade fair casino
fairplay MOZAMBIQUE
A group of Chinese businessmen from Macau have approached the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM) and the Mozambican government with a request to build a casino at the site of FACIM’s new permanent exhibition centre 30km north of the capital in Marracuene. Chairman of the Mozambican Export Promotion Institute (IPEX) Joao Macaringue disclosed the request at a press conference on September 3, the final day of the trade fair, however, there were no details.
He said: “There are some Macau businessmen based in South Africa who came
here, and they are interested in setting up a casino.”
The new site, completed earlier this year, is also attracting requests for hotels.
“The Investment
Promotion Centre, in co- ordination with the government, has taken Marracuene district as the reference point for all the initiatives now appearing to increase the
accommodation capacity,” said Macaringue.
IPEX is now working with authorities to produce a ground plan in order to determine locations for various facilities. The casino plan, should it come off, will be just one of the elements to make the new exhibition site a year-round enterprise.
