Lynda La Plante
“Working on US Productions is very different for
me because in the UK, I produce the shows
through my company La Plante Productions,
however when I work in the US I am part of a
much bigger team of people working on the
show.”
From all aspects of production, from writing to
the final editing stages, Lynda is proactive.
“I have never missed or
wanted to return to
acting as I find writing so
fulfilling and enjoy every
minute of it.”
“I am really hands on until the point the camera
starts rolling, then I prefer to remain away from the
film set because I feel the director is the number
one position. I get involved again at the editing
stage. I thoroughly enjoy this part of the process,
when the director and I work together on the final
cut.”
Most recently Lynda was awarded with a CBE in
the 2008 New Year’s Honour’s List.
“I received my CBE from Prince Charles, which
was such a wonderful experience.
“My son, brother and sister were in the palace with
me. It was a very special day, and I felt very proud
to be honoured.”
As for her long-running stint as the ‘Queen of
Crime’, she says, “I am at long last being able to
move from the crime thriller, not on a permanent
basis, but I have always wanted to write a costume
drama and that is now under way.
“Another foray into the unknown for me is comedy
and I am thrilled to be writing a comedy drama,
which I am enjoying every minute of. I just hope
the viewers will also have a laugh.”
With a new book in the pipeline, featuring the
characters Anna Travis and DCI Langton in
another murder investigation, Lynda says her
inspiration usually comes from real-life crimes.
“I have never written a Trial and Retribution that
hasn’t got roots in reality. I have always used a
research team of pathologists, forensic scientists
and high-ranking Met officers.”
Next for La Plante is a film produced through her
film company, Cougar Films, although fans might
be in for a wait.
“We have big plans for the future of Cougar Films
and have a number of wonderful scripts prepared,
but it takes such a long time to get a film financed
so we have to be patient.”
Impatient Lynda La Plante fans can see the fifth
collection of Trial & Retribution, which is now
available on DVD.
