During my wife’s pregnancy I decided to take
some time out and set myself three targets
which were to have a child, plant a tree and build
a house. After completing the first two – my
daughter Helena was born in 1994 – I went to
building sites every morning and learned from
tradesmen how to mix cement and lay bricks in a
straight line. In the afternoons I built my own house
using what I had learned. I succeeded in building it all
alone with my own hands.
