Key figures in the business travel
sector believe Barack Obama’s historic election
win will be a turning point for the ailing global
economy.
Maurice Veronique, chairman of the Guild
of Travel Management Companies and chief
executive of Travel by Appointment, says
Obama’s campaign for change is good news for
global corporate travel. “He inspires people. He
has the ability to change the views and opinions
of everyday people, and will surely bridge the
gap between the US and the rest of the world,”
he said. “I believe this will lead to better business
conditions on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Steve Bullers, commercial director at
Derby-based Senior International Travel, says
his business is now experiencing a real downturn
in trade from its corporate customers, but he
hopes Obama’s election is the start of the road
to recovery. “Obama has inherited a poor and
uncertain economic situation. The world may just
see this as a positive move by the American
people, which will in turn stimulate growth in
the markets and hopefully produce benefits to
our industry,” he said.
Kevin Mitchell,
chairman of the
Business Travel
Coalition in the US,
hopes the incoming
administration will be

industry needs,
