Software Review
The look and feel of the
package will be familiar to
anyone who has had a
look at the latest
generation of BI tools
sic funnel and dot/arrow diagrams showing how cus-
tomers progress into, out of and through a site.
Offering this in 3D expands the number of metrics
that can be displayed at any one time, and the inter-
activity available between the different tools – pull a
slice out of a pie chart and drop it into a tabular
report – is superb.
All the standard canned reports and metrics from
SiteCatalyst are present too and can be customised as
required in Discover. There’s also the option to create
new metrics or derived variables which can be saved
and again customised to each company’s specific
needs.
Querying is excellent, offering a fully-featured and
friendly visual front end to the ubiquitous SQL
underneath. Tabular data can be viewed in a very
Excel-like interface and it’s also simple to pull any
count or selection out to that popular application.
The need for customer
segmentation has certainly
hit home at Omniture and
there are plenty of options
to use to quickly and easily
create groupings. These can
be based on simple descrip-
tive selections or bands, or
more complex algorithms
used to generate a score for
each visitor.
Handily, you can save a
segment as a dimension
within the package, making
it much simpler to explore
how those customer types,
for example, weekend visi-
tors, behave differently to
Querying is excellent,
with a fully-0featured
another segment, say, week-
front end to the SQL
day visitors. that lies beneath.
