Alex Matthews
photographed Dave Aharonian
offshore of their hometown of
Victoria, British Columbia. “Folks
who have seen the photo have
assumed that he is in a tandem, but
that erroneous conclusion is due to
the distortion of the wide-angle lens,”
said Matthews, who used a Nikon
D70s in a waterproof Aquapac. “To
get the shot I basically had to wade
out into the water and lay my head
down almost on the fore deck.”
Paul Villecourt took this
photo at Burano Island near Venice,
Italy. “Like Venice, Burano is crossed
by dozens of small canals allowing
sea kayakers to discover every part
of the village,” said the French
photographer. “The colours of the
houses were supposed to help the
ships find their way home.”
He used a Nikon D200 with
an 18–70 mm lens.
Josh McCulloch of
Victoria, British Columbia, shot this
fishing float at the Vargas Island Inn
in Clayoquot Sound. “It’s a really
cool rustic lodge. There are probably
more glass floats hanging around this
place than there are in the Pacific
Ocean,” said McCulloch. He used a
Nikon D200.
Bruce Kirkby took this shot
of expedition mates Dave Quinn
and Kelly Comishin on Lake Nahuel
Huapi, near Bariloche, Argentina.
Kirkby is a professional adventurer,
photographer and writer based in
Kimberly, British Columbia. He
used a Nikon D200 with a 12 mm
focal length.
