For Your Safety

Survival at Sea

I L L U S T R AT I O N S B Y L O R E N Z O D E L B I A N C O Good day, ladies and gentlemen.

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Storm Issue of Adventure Kayak magazine.

Before launch, please ensure that you are seated in an upright position, that all personal belongings are stowed in the cockpit behind you or in the waterproof compartments, and that your sprayskirt and life jacket are securely fastened. Please wear them at all times, even when the water appears flat.

In the unlikely event of a loss of kayak equilibrium, oxygen will automatically be located above your head. Pull the cord in front of you to exit the cockpit, swim to the surface, and breathe normally.

Take a moment now to read the safety card

located on the page in front of you to familiarize yourself with the other important safety features of your kayak. Then read the following stories about other worst-case scenarios that are very unlikely to happen — a harrowing night crossing in a storm-tossed sea, freezing — water immersion, a waterspout, a shark attack — and the things you can do to prevent them.

Thank you for choosing Adventure Kayak. We hope you enjoy the read.
