ended up with a dance that they named “Tokyo
Fascination”. Each group was required to write
their own part of the step sheet, and voila!, a
new dance was born. This dance was taught at
one of the workshops over the weekend. Craig
thinks that was one of the event’s highlights.
“Everyone enjoyed creating Tokyo Fascination.
The sheer fact they had created something
tangible together gave everybody there a
fabulous sense of achievement.”
Friday was a day off, and Craig was taken
to Tokyo Disneyland. They got there as it
opened, and stayed until it closed. Saturday
and Sunday were two days of workshops
in Kawasaki, just outside of Toyko. Craig
taught a variety of dances, mostly his own
choreography but also some by other
choreographers. He even taught a couple
of brand new dances and used the group as
guinea pigs to see how they liked them. Craig
says; “I really put them through their paces
with teaches like The Way You Look, You’re
Just Too Good, Girl, Tokyo Fascination, Just
Stand Up, Faith In Love but they all took it in
their stride!”
Craig is a very patient, thorough instructor
and even the beginners were able to get
the dances after a little practice. Saturday
evening was party time, with lots of open
dancing and other fun things. Craig was
dressed as a baby chick and he was just
ado---rable! Of course he then had to lead
everyone in the Chicken Dance.
Seems like Japan has fallen in love with
Craig and because of his skills not only as a
choreographer but as a warm and thoughtful
teacher. Farly simply says: “We all enjoyed
dancing with him.” As for Lily: “During
his off time, Craig is a 25 year old young
man, but when he’s working, he’s very
professional and you forget how young he
is. He has a sense of fashion which also
shows up in his choreography, I think.”
But the last words are Farly’s who says:
Having instructors, dancers, choreographers
come to Japan is a great way to make new
friends in the Line dance world, and we look
forward to making many more.”
