There’s never been a shortage of big sticks
on the market, but this year we have been
blown away by the sheer number of models
battling to make the grade. In a similar vein
to 2007, high moment of inertia is still the
main focus for most, while every design
innovation has been pushed to the limit.
It seems there is still plenty of room on
the market for a massive variety of head
shapes, ranging from the traditional to
the space-age and everything in between.
Manufacturers have also impressed when it
comes to making the 460cc heads appear
more compact than they really are. Impact
sound is also something that differs
dramatically between makes and models.
We’ll help you navigate your way through
this vast arena to find your perfect driver.

KEITH’S ADVICE
■ If you are in the market for a new driver
it’s crucial that you seek some good quality,
independent, professional advice. Looks
are obviously very important, but make
sure you invest your time in testing a
number of different models to find the
driver that suits you best.
■ Many amateurs suffer because of a lack
of loft. People often associate greater
length with a straighter face but it’s more
important to get the right launch angle as
most of your distance will come through
the air – so don’t be afraid to choose a
driver with more loft.
■ Finding the right shaft with the perfect
kick-point is absolutely essential. In many
ways, the shaft is the engine room of the
golf club, transferring energy from your
hands into the ball. Again, it’s worth
seeking expert advice as to what shaft
would suit your swing best.
