Blind in business!

Having been set up by three visually impaired graduates fifteen years ago, we strive to help visually impaired students and recent graduates into their first jobs after university.
Many of our candidates come to us believing they are useless, that they will never get a job. But we quickly sort that out! The truth is that 90% of people that register with us find employment within a year. And much of that employment is with the country’s very best employers.
I work with both our candidates and with the best employers in the country. These employers are often nervous about making their recruitment processes accessible, or about how to interact with someone who cannot see. Its all about giving everyone confidence, and that’s primarily what I do.
We give them the confidence to aspire to be the best, the confidence to go to an interview expecting to sell themselves, and the confidence to believe in their ability. A confidence that is rare in many people we meet, when they first walk through our office door.
This confidence is hard to instil in people, but we do it by working one-to-one with our candidates, and by giving them the time and skills they need to explore what they are good at and what they’d like to do.
What Blind in Business really means is that we’re in business to get blind people to a point where they can compete equally with everyone else for the best jobs, to get blind children to know they can go to University and then get these good jobs and to get employers to lose their fear and take on a part of a gifted workforce that they might have otherwise missed.

A user friendly CV is the key to success.

A CV is a very important and powerful document which people put a lot of thought into. Have you ever tried thinking about CVs from the recruiters point of view? A great tip for any candidate is to make it as easy as possible for the employer to see what you have to offer. Ensure that your CV is user friendly, if the right information is delivered clearly and concisely, then your CV will be more likely to stay at the top of the pile.
The ideal user friendly CV is one that clearly defines you, your career history and your future objectives. Simple and easy to read, it demonstrates that you can do the job and gives examples of how well you have done in the past.
A recruitment agency or employer may need to send your CV to other departments or key personnel, so ensure your CV is compatible with email, photocopier and fax. Draw the recruiter’s attention to the key skills that you wish to promote. Do not give too much information, time is money!
Keep the CV simple, giving consideration to it’s end purpose. You will have more chance of success if you tailor it for each role. Consider writing a covering letter including your current telephone number and the best time of day to call you. Get ready for that all important call inviting you to interview.
