Why did you change career?

After working for 7 years in the same area of expertise I decided that I wanted a new challenge and wanted to work for myself. I wanted a career that could fit around my family and social commitments. The community work I was engaged in was fulfilling but often required me to work long hours and weekends and I wanted to cut down my hours and gain control of my life. So one day I took time out to think about where my career was heading and decided to write down a personal career plan. I listed all the things I thought I would be good at doing, I listed all the things I enjoyed and listed all the practical skills I wanted to acquire but hadn’t had time to do so. These included learning how to decorate, learning how to hang a door, learning how to plaster a wall and being able to fix a leak on my tap. I realised that most of the things I wanted to learn were trade based so I thought about retraining into a trade.

Why did you choose Access Training?

There are many reasons why I chose Access Training to get qualified in a trade. The main reason for me was because they were one of the few providers in the UK that offered me a Multi-Skills Training course with a recognized qualification. Another reason why I chose Access was because of the great flexibility the course schedule offered me. I was able to spread my training across a number of months instead of being tied to a weekly schedule. This meant I could finish my old job and get qualified at the same time it worked out perfectly. What was great though I was able to get qualified and start my own little business up and pay for my training across 12 months on there flexible payment plan. So I have been earning money and I am fully qualified.

So how is business going?

Business is literally booming! Since my training I have got tons of confidence and fell I have got my life back. I have so much work on I have even set up an agency attached to my main business so that other trades women can get work via my business. Access not only provided me with excellent training via there professional, friendly trainers they also gave me great advise on how to market my business, how to obtain the correct equipment and tools for jobs and much, much more.

Would you recommend Access Training?

Yes, wholeheartedly. I can’t imagine going back to my old job and old life working a seven day week with no time off. Nowadays I have complete control of where, who and when I want to work. I can’t thank Access enough, I know it sounds clichéd but I literally accessed a new life!
