Undergraduate Student Sandwich Placements at the Welsh Assembly Government
Undergraduate Student Sandwich Placements at the Welsh Assembly Government
An Undergraduate Student Placement is a period of work experience starting between July and September each year and lasting for 48-50 weeks. The placements are targeted at students who have a sandwich year as part of their degree course or undergraduate university students who opt to take a year out from their university studies. The programme has been developed to increase students’ skills and knowledge so that they can apply them in the workplace. A placement also provides an opportunity for students to see the wide range of work undertaken by the participating department or division and gain an overall view of the work of the Welsh Assembly Government. They are given the opportunity to gain invaluable experience of the Welsh Assembly Government, knowledge of what it does and a chance to develop skills at junior management level. The Assembly Government attracts students from a wide range of backgrounds and degree disciplines. We have a strong commitment to diversity and would particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic and disabled students.
What does the Welsh Assembly Government have to offer?
The Assembly Government offers a wide range of opportunities to students; these include the opportunity to take forward specific projects. Each student will have a mentor who supervises the placement.
The Placements Team provides quarterly review sessions for all students, where they are given the opportunity to raise issues and concerns about their placement and also to allow them to network with other students currently placed at the Assembly Government. Students are also able to raise any issue on ad hoc basis should the need arise.
How do students apply for Placements?
In October of every year, the Placement Team distributes information on the number of placements and projects available to students of all universities in Wales. Students are requested to send their Curriculum Vitae with a covering letter stating which placements they are interested in and why.
If you require further information, please visit our website www.wales.gov.uk.uk/recruitment, the range of placement opportunities will be available here from October.
