From a teaching perspective: Change of career
Have you considered what a change in career can do for you? If you are not satisfied in your current role, now may be the time to consider a completely new direction. That is exactly what Jill Johnson did when she left a teaching role to take up a new challenge with British Gas in their Contact Centre in Cardiff.
A Contact Centre may seem a peculiar choice of career following a teaching position, but why? It’s now a very popular choice with people from all kinds of different backgrounds, and is the fastest growing market for the Welsh Capital with more businesses arriving each year. Jill explains her reasons:
“At 46 years of age, I was not sure what else I could do. I was disillusioned in my current role, yet was unsure if I would be accepted anywhere. However, when I applied for British Gas my maturity was welcomed and I joined a team with a wide range of experiences and of many different ages.”
“I had noticed the job in the Job Centre, while in between teaching roles, and the salary matched what I was used to. It also looked very interesting, and my husband had also done this kind of work and encouraged me to give it a try. Supply teaching was not a settled or steady working environment and I was looking for something more stable. If you are in a similar situation, the job with British Gas is the one for you! The whole package is very attractive, and my managers have been very supportive and understanding.”
“I was concerned at first that it was also a sales role, but I surprised myself how I achieved the goals that I was set. The training is excellent, and you get lots of support from the trainers. They made the learning experience fun, and you really look forward to the day ahead.”
If you don’t think that you have the necessary experience to do a contact centre role, think again. If you are keen to deliver excellent standards of service and achieve set goals you may find that the skills that you have acquired in previous jobs will be welcomed by our company and our customers.
