Trish Clowes: Saxophone

My time at the Academy has given me the space, encouragement and inspiration to develop my musical personality. Most special to me have been my saxophone lessons with Iain Ballamy and composition lessons with Pete Churchill, as well as masterclasses with Chris Potter, Mark Turner and Dave Holland.

I have been able to take full advantage of the recording facilites too, creating demos for my jazz quartet, double quartet (jazz quartet and string quartet).

I know I’ll keep working with people I’ve met at the Academy throughout my career. It is a very special thing to be surrounded by so many musicians of such high standard. Without the support and commitment of everyone I’ve worked with, I could not have achieved a fraction of my work.

Being part of this department has given me a platform, making it easier for me to get involved with the London jazz scene and across the country. I have now had the pleasure of playing in some of the best jazz clubs in London, and have started to get commissions.’
