a few miles apart. St Paul is
the state capital, ‘the last city in
the East’, with solid brick and
tree-lined boulevards, plus a
riverfront where paddle steamers
dock at the most northerly
port for cruises. Halfway to
Minneapolis is Fort Snelling,
where costumed interpreters,
dressed as soldiers and settlers,
