I started off opening up for him at his
gigs, and going round the world with
him, and then gigs of my own started to
come in, and since then it’s really
spiralled out of control.”
The non-stop international touring
hasn’t abated since then; Zabiela tells
DJmag he hasn’t been home in two
months.
“I’m starting to get quite homesick. It’s
the longest I’ve ever been away in one
go. I defi nitely miss my couch, and I miss
EastEnders, but the gigs are really great.
The past year, things have just been
snowballing out of control. I’m DJing
pretty much all the time, it’s crazy, but
it’s kind of amazing ’cos I went from not
playing out much, to travelling around
the world, DJing all over the shop.”
So has the constant touring stopped him
from working on his own productions?
“Not really, because as I travel about I
have a little keyboard that I can just plug
into my laptop. That’s kind of my whole
studio right there, and they go
everywhere I go — any hotel room that
I’m in, I can just mess about. That’s really
the only choice I have anyway ’cos I’m
always travelling about.”
