Show report: SMTAI survives Fay
thermal profiler that can accommodate up
to 20 thermocouples and can store up to 25
profiling recipes on the system.
ERSA is enjoying considerable growth
with the new VersaPrint stencil printer. This
machine has the unique ability to provide
100% board inspection using its patented
line inspection technology.
Essemtec celebrated the sale of a
turnkey line during the show. The company
has just added 40,000 sq. ft of production
capability at its Swiss headquarters to help
cope with the increasing demand for its pick
and place machines and reflow ovens.
Henkel were in buoyant mood follow-
ing the recent acquisition of Emerson &
Cuming and National Starch. Among the
key technologies displayed at the show were
some unique POP solutions.
Bob Black at JUKI provided much
entertainment throughout the week. JUKI
is riding high after celebrating its 20,000th
machine sale this year and its increasing
market share across the world.
KIC showcased their new KIC 24/7
RF model that use RF to enable real-time
monitoring during profiling.
Krayden is one of the biggest materials
suppliers in the US and Mexico. They dem-
onstrated the full range of Dow Corning
materials and the famous SN100C lead-free
solder from Nihon Superior and distributed
by FCT.
Kyzen were wearing sunglasses at the
show—not to shield their eyes from the sun
but from the shiny reflection coming from
solder joints cleaned with their award-win-
ning Aquanox 4641 chemistry.
This was the first outing for RMD In-
struments following their recent acquisition
by Dynasil on July 1st. The new combined
business unit promises to deliver a num-
ber of new advances going forward and
strengthen the already popular LeadTracer
XRF gun.
VJ Electronix displayed the Vertex x-ray
system and the PMT400 rework system. The
PMT400 has been particularly successful in
large-scale rework applications and more re-
cently has been enjoying great success using
its solder scavenging capabilities.
YesTech demonstrated their F1S AOI
system that uses their patent pending Fu-
sion system that utilizes 600 colored LEDs
to inspect boards in 2D and 3D.
The general mood at SMTAI was up-
beat despite the visitation of Tropical Storm
Fay. Next year this event moves to San
Diego where, notwithstanding earthquakes,
SMTA will continue to provide one of the
industry’s best technical conferences.
