Recent events such
as the handing back
of a DVB-H licence
by German operating
consortium Mobile 3.0
and the postponement
of the launch of DVB-H
services in France have
led some people to the
conclusion that the
EU-backed dedicated
mobile TV standard is
now sliding towards the
plughole. Others are
concluding from the as
yet generally low mobile
TV take-up rates in
many markets worldwide
that, while the service
is a nice-to-have, the
general public won’t be
prepared to stump up
the kind of money for
it that would make it
a paying subscription-
based proposition for
cell phone companies.
Both inferences, though,
are open to debate.
