It’s Carnival Time!
Rio and Salvador Carnival
Frequently and globally referred to as the world’s
biggest parties, Carnival festivities in Brazil are a
SPECIALIST TOURS
highlight of any visit to South America. Whilst Rio
has deservedly earned its renowned reputation
and is the most famous and spectacular of the
celebrations, Salvador Carnival in the northern
state of Bahia, can be a more exuberant display
and offers visitors a more interactive and
participatory experience than Rio. Rio and
Salvador Carnival celebrations unfold over several
days of partying, glitz, glamour and colour. The
enthusiasm and energy that the locals devote to
these parties is unmatched and the Brazilians
national spirit and passion is evident in the
festival’s displays and parades and through the
infectious beat of the samba.
Salvador Carnival has a much more African feel and
celebrates Carnival in a week-long party which
changes in mood from one part of the city to
another. The parades are more participatory, where
visitors can dance beside the trucks and freelance
bars. Salvador is frequently referred to as a city of
ten thousand parties during the Carnival period.
Rio Carnival turns the famous city into the world’s
biggest party and combines street dancing, fantastic
costumes and partying until dawn with the city’s
tropical climate. Its culmination is the Samba
Parade in the Sambadrome, an event people should
experience once in their life time. Kumuka South
American Tours have been scheduled to coincide
with the events in both cities and also offer
accommodation packages for passengers during the
festivals. Accommodation in either city during the
celebrations can be expensive and can also be
