and confi dent being left. However, most 9-12 year olds are not
mature enough to cope with an emergency or be left on their
own for more than a very short time. If you do have to leave
them alone, give them clear instructions about what to do if
there is a problem and make sure they have contact numbers of
friends/family who you know are close by or available whilst
you are out.
Finding Help
Once you have decided on the amount of help you require and the
type of childcare that will suit your needs, the next task is to find some-
one suitable. To find help you may want to use the services of an
agency, place advertisements in magazines, websites or school notice
boards, or discuss your needs with friends and colleagues.
