“After leaving college I worked some part-time jobs, but really wanted a full-time position that paid well. Someone recommended British Gas as a good employer but I had difficulty finding out if they were recruiting. I used to read Welsh Recruitment regularly on my lunch breaks and noticed that British Gas were hiring. I rang Welsh Recruitment who passed my contact details on to British Gas. Within 48 hours I had passed the telephone interview and was invited to attend an assessment day. I’ve been working at British Gas in Cardiff for 6 months now and I’ve met some great people.
The work is really rewarding — I’m one of the highest sellers in my team and my overall benefit package is excellent! I would definitely recommend the Welsh Recruitment process of employment to anyone.”

Richard Tutshill, aged 24, Customer Services and Sales Advisor, British Gas

Have you recently wondered if you are realising your full potential in work? Perhaps you’ve been in a retail environment for a while without really progressing, but are afraid of trying something different. You may feel your efforts are not appreciated in your current job, can see no career path in front of you or you may just want to try something a bit more interesting. If this sounds familiar, you could join a growing number of people who are now moving forward in a career with British Gas.

Steven Grant used to be in a similar position; “I was in working in the same shop for 4 years. At first it was fun, and I enjoyed an active social life with the people I worked with. However, the wages were not that good even with staff discount, and I came to realise that I was not going anywhere fast. It was this that prompted me to apply to work for British Gas at their Contact Centre in Cardiff”.

A new direction can seem daunting, especially if you’ve been in one place for so long that it’s become too comfortable to leave. Isn’t a new career in a contact centre a leap too far? Steven had the same concerns; “I wasn’t sure what to expect when
I first started. I met a lot of people who were starting with me and were just as nervous as I was. We were soon put at ease though, as the trainers and managers were all very nice, introduced themselves and explained what would happen over the next 13 weeks training”. So was it what you thought it would be like? “Actually it was better! The training was easy to follow and the support was fantastic. The trainers were always keen to help, and I found I settled into the role very quickly”

So what is it like when you’ve completed your training? “The great thing about working for British Gas is that you and your team grow together – you make lots of new friends, and if you are interested in exceeding your sales goals, then the rewards are fantastic. There are also really good facilities when you’re not working – an on-site gym, pool table, play stations, internet café. A lot of thought has gone into making it a nice place to work”.

So all-in-all, would you say you’re happy to have moved into a new career with British Gas? “It’s the best move I could have made. I’d recommend anyone who is looking for a new challenge to come here and see how rewarding this kind of work can be – you get to deliver excellent customer service, and are rewarded for selling a whole range of energy products”.

If you are considering a change, why not give British Gas a call on 0845 270 0202, and see the difference for yourself.
