I came to the Academy as a postgraduate violinist, graduating in 2004. But I’ve conducted for many years now, and after seeing the opportunities available here I decided to study at the Academy.

Colin Metters, our main teacher, is a unique pedagogue. What I’ve learned about myself and about my music-making on this course has given me real assets for my professional life.

I’m Music Director of the Eden Chamber Orchestra, which I founded at the Academy. We play everything from baroque to twenty-first century at the Academy and other prestigious venues around London.

It’s the extras that make this department special. Not only do we have lessons with Colin Davis, but we also have the opportunity to observe his rehearsals with the orchestra and opera department. I’ve also conducted a young composers’ workshop led by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

I’ve been able to make links with other groups too — including taking part on the Orkney Conducting Course, becoming Assistant Conductor of the Havant Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the Ashover Music Festival.’
