Ministry promotes

‘Baby Bundles’

Alternatives Womens Center in Escondido

has developed a tool people can use as a means of ministering to those who are thinking about an abortion, as well as being there for those who have had an abortion. Their “Baby Bundle” is a bag containing

a model of a 12-week fetus, a card outlining the development of the baby over 12 weeks, and a card with “talking points” — on one side addressing those contemplating abortion, and on the other, addressing those who have had an abortion. “One woman received one of these at a meeting,” said Elaine Marshburn, executive

director. “ A few days later her adult son came in, telling her that his best friend’s girlfriend was pregnant, and she was going to abort. The woman begged him for the opportunity to speak to his friend. Her son didn’t think it was a good idea, but he took the model of the baby. As a result of that, his friend and the girlfriend came into Alternatives, spoke with an adviser, had an ultrasound, and decided to carry the baby!” Marshburn also said that the teenage son of one of the Alternatives employees used

his cell phone to take a picture of that 12-week fetus model in his hand. He then went around campus showing this baby to his friends. It started a lot of conversations. “Baby Bundles” are available at $2.25 each. Alternatives can be reached at info@ awc-ca.com or (760) 741-9796.

A great need in the beach cities

ministry update

By MARY ROSE STEARNS

It has been nearly two years since Birth

Choice San Marcos fi rst partnered with Pregnancy Resource Center of Vista, which owns and operates the Image Clear Ultrasound mobile van to offer free pregnancy tests and ultrasound to clients in downtown Oceanside. First at the Oceanside Pier and now, parked on the corner of Mission Avenue and Freeman. Each Monday, rain or shine, we see

3-5 clients on average, in a seven-hour period. We consider each client we see to be at-risk for abortion. The need for godly care, open and transparent counsel, is greatly needed and shared during these encounters. Women are looking for the truth about their bodies and their choices. There is such a lack, that when the truth is shared, it resonates. We are so grateful to Fr. Michael Diaz of St. Mary Star of the Sea, for providing a place for us to offer pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, yet we hear a persistent call, like that of the “man from Macedonia,” who appeared to the apostle Paul, “to come” and stay. Several blocks from the Oceanside Pier,

and blocks from the Oceanside High School, the location is steps away from a community clinic and not far from a substance abuse recovery center for women with children — evidence that there is a hotbed of need for a pregnancy
