New Apples Are Greener.
Apple claims its latest generation Macbook is greener than any notebook thanks to new design and manufacturing processes.
Its new LED backlit display, for instance, is now both mercury and arsenic free, and Apple says it is now removing other toxins such as polyvinal chloride (PVC) and bromine flame retardants (BFR) from enclosures and circuit boards. Some 41 percent smaller than the previous generation Macbooks, the lighter weight and less packaging should make it more sustainable.
The notebook is also made from recyclable aluminium and glass.
Apple are currently running offers to promote its green credentials, including free recycling of old
computers when buying qualifying purchases. iPods and old mobile phones will also be recycled free through the company.
Recycle in Style.
A notebook encased entirely in bamboo, has been launched by ASUS. Inside, is the ASUS exclusive Super Hybrid Engine which adjusts power to the various components by need, promoting energy efficiency.
Plastics are from recyclable raw materials, the screen is an LED backlit LCD, and it even has a red and green warning light telling you if it is using a lot of power at any one time.
Bamboo grows quicker than some other trees and can be hardier – but we’d like to see more stats on exactly how green this idea is. Prices start at around £1300.
