2-3-2 zone game
Why do it?
• To encourage players to play the ball forward to the strikers
• To encourage the midfield to support the strikers
How to do it?
• The pitch is divided into three zones and the teams are matched in a 2-3-2 formation (or similar).
• Players are restricted to their areas.
• Once the ball is passed into the attacking zone, a midfield player can join that zone and
make a 3v2 overload.
• That player must return to their original zone after the ball leaves that area or after a
set period (e.g. 10 secs).
Don’t just copy it, improve it
• Allow defenders to play straight into the attacking zone and midfield players support
• Allow midfield players to dribble into the attacking zone
• Allow shots from the midfield third if a striker plays the ball back into that zone.
