Step over
and shoot
Why do it?
• To introduce creative combination play around the penalty box
• To develop concentration
How to do it?
• Both balls are passed at the same time.
• The two receiving players leave/step over the ball and receive the other ball.
• One touch out of their feet and a shot at goal.
Progression
• As previous practice but this time the players step over the ball and play a pass into
the path of the other player.
• Replicating the move made famous by Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.
Don’t just copy it, improve it.
• Who scores first?
• Instead of stepping over the players play a ball ‘around the corner’ with the outside
of their foot
• After both have shot the coach plays a ball in the middle for a 1 v 1 contest
