American Family – E-Fusion finalist – 10/30/2008
American Family Insurance's Teen Safe Driver
Teen Safe Driver is a driving safety feedback system used by parents to teach and motivate their teen drivers to reduce crashes and claims. Young drivers are up to 10 times more likely to crash than adults, and the resulting deaths and injuries are of epidemic proportions. Teen Safe Driver is the first system to have a significant measurable impact on this problem, cutting risky driving and crashes by more than 65%. The system includes a special Video Event Recorder installed in the teen’s vehicle, which, when triggered by a risky driving event, records a brief video of both interior and exterior views. These videos are later transmitted to DriveCam over a cellular network, where they are scored and useful ones are returned to the family for review with the teen driver.
