HOCKE
Y
’S HO
T IN CHILE
Hockey in Chile is on the up! And it’s not just holding a successful
Olympic Qualification tournament in Santiago or winning silver at
the Pan Am Championships (or having the two best players at the
the event) ... the minority sport is enjoying something of a revival.
Chile runs a National League which runs in winter and spring. At the end of the year there are play
offs for the 1st men and women’s division.
There are eight teams in both the men and women’s league. In the second division there are 12
teams and they play all year around.
The league is called TORNEO FEDERACION.
There are approximately 1300 players in both divisions.
Once a month the National League is stopped and there are special tournaments for the youth
section (kids from 9-15 years old). These are played over a weekend with an average of 1800 partici-
pants and a party atmosphere.
