The Rugby League
World Cup kicks off
in October and
players will almost
literally run through
brick walls to gain
the right for their
country to be
crowned world
champions. Rugby
League is one of the toughest, most
physically demanding team sports. So
Sport IQ chatted to one of its toughest
men, Hull KR’s Chev Walker, to better
understand the seasonal training
required to survive in the Super League.
TASK ONE: Imagine you are in charge of an elite
rugby league team’s fitness programme. Write down the
fitness tests that you would you use throughout the
season. You must explain what you would expect to test
and justify the test’s application to Rugby League.
TASK TWO: Plan a one week training schedule
from Sunday through to Saturday. Provide a brief daily
plan of what you would include. Remember Sunday is
match day!
