Cumulative goodwill written off directly to group reserves prior to the implementation of FRS 10, Goodwill and Intangible
Assets, is £12,885,000 (2006: £12,885,000). This goodwill was written off to reserves as a result of accounting policies adopted
at the time of these acquisitions. Subsequent disposal of the businesses to which this goodwill relates would result in these
amounts being charged to the profit and loss account. The profit and loss reserve includes an asset of £4,011,000 (2006:
£490,000), stated after deferred taxation of £1,589,000 (2006: £210,000) in respect of the pension scheme.
