t’s an exciting time to be a school counselor in Texas. Our state continues to pioneer
innovative programs that improve how students learn and what they achieve, and
counselors are at the very center of our educational initiatives.
The next step forward in Texas is the AchieveTexas College and Career Initiative.
AchieveTexas is designed to enable students to achieve success by preparing them for
secondary and postsecondary opportunities, meaningful employment, and active
citizenship. As a school counselor, you are in a unique position to help students take
advantage of all that AchieveTexas has to offer.
Any education initiative takes time to implement and requires patience from
everyone involved as the process unfolds. As a counselor, you may find that
AchieveTexas affects your role, responsibilities, and schedule. Change can be stressful,
but the truth is that AchieveTexas will actually make your job even more rewarding
and exciting.
