ROTHER, DO YOU HAVE THE VICTORY?”
That was the question the adult believers asked each other at every encounter when
I was a kid. I don’t know who came up with that question, but now I recognize that
it actually answered a whole lot of other questions: “Have you been spending time in
prayer?” “Have you been living the separated life of holiness?” “Are you in a right relation-
ship with God? With your family? With your neighbors? With your brothers and sisters in
the church? With your employer? With your customers?” Those praying Christians of yester-
year knew that if you had the victory, then all of these questions were answered positively.
Early Pentecostal believers were persecuted and ridiculed, but they “had the victory”
and could, therefore, handle it. Their joy was so real that persecution couldn’t take it away.
