Welsh Recruitment

this back-to-back shift can be the most challenging. Also, when the casino is extremely busy, you may have to work through one or two of your breaks. Table awareness is important; with any game you have to be aware of all bets placed, making sure that they are placed correctly and they do not exceed any of the maximums for that table. You also have to be aware of when and where cash is thrown onto the layout, and changing up where necessary. Learning new games – Dice, for example, can be quite challenging.

As a croupier, what difficulties have you encountered working in a role that demands such high quality customer service?

Sometimes, though not very often you have to deal to irate customers.
One customer I remember threw ‘Holy Water’ in my face as she claimed that she had “Never! Ever!” won a game with me. Everyone, including management, fell about in fits of laughter as the customer complained loudly that she had gone especially to church on Sunday to get it and was surprised and disappointed that I hadn’t burst into flames! I just pointed to her cards smiled and announced the total. (I will leave it up to your imagination as to what this particular customer claimed I was). You are never left to handle any form of dispute on your own. You always have the added support of your immediate supervisor who will take charge if and when it is required. In every job there are good times and bad times, but in a casino the bad times are very, very rare indeed. No matter what incident arises, there is always someone who will point out the funny side.

What opportunities are available for croupiers within the Gaming Industry?

There are so many different types of jobs and opportunities within the industry, more so now than ever before. The starting point for all careers generally begins on the gaming floor. As a croupier, this will equip you with the understanding, knowledge and experience needed to move into other fields for example: Inspector; Training Officer; Pitboss; Management; Receptionist; Cashier; Accountant; Customer Relations; PR; Sales Manager; Human Resources – these are but a few. There are live TV live interactive games, online gaming companies who use live croupiers, cruise ships, trans-Atlantic flights, airports…the list of opportunities goes on and on.

Are the skills of the croupier transferable when applying for jobs abroad?

Absolutely! British trained croupiers are highly sought-after worldwide due to the exacting standards of their training. The rules and regulations of the Gaming Industry and Gaming Staff in this country are still envied across the world.

Is this the first time there has ever been an Accredited Qualification for the Croupier?

Yes. PCT is the first training company in the UK to be accredited by the award- winning body, Education Development International (EDI).
There has never been any formal qualification before now for croupiers – well, in the history of gaming actually. We are very proud to be the first, as we have always maintained that our skills should have been recognised long ago!

What advice would you give for anyone considering a career as a croupier?

If you have a dream then you have nothing to lose in choosing to become a croupier. These professional skills span a lifetime and can take you anywhere that you want to go – it’s up to you to use these skills to make your dreams come true! I’ve been in the industry for 20 years. Sue, whose testimony you can read on our website (http://www.croupiertrainingpct.co.uk/aboutus.html) has been in the industry for 16 years. This in itself speaks volumes as to how much we enjoyed working as croupiers!
We keep in contact with friends still working in the industry throughout the UK, and across the world in Australia, Vegas, Moscow, South Africa and the Bahamas. So why consider it? Do it! What are you waiting for? There really is nothing like it!
