Welsh Recruitment
Race Equality First has been a significant player in the area of equality within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan for a number of years. Like any organisation they’ve had their highs and lows. In the past 18 months there have been a number of internal and external opportunities and challenges facing the organisation, but their mission – opportunities for all – is still very much in sight
Opportunities for all
Race Equality First’s Future Vision
In August 2006 a new Director was appointed. It quickly became clear that ‘no change’ was not an option. What follows is an outline of where REF is now heading as an organisation. Our future vision is inevitably aspirational in many ways.
However, we have been making decisions and nurturing changes that have enabled us to begin to move forward in order to exploit the opportunities and to address the challenges that are part of the reality of our organisation.
Our purpose is:
• To work with others to make equality real for people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan
• We are eager to work in partnership whether with individuals, communities or organisations to enable people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to increasingly experience equality rather than just hearing or reading about it in policy papers and schemes.
Our future vision is characterised by:
• Increasing equality
• Diminishing discrimination
• Developing understanding and valuing of diversity
• Growing inclusiveness and participation in citizenship
Our beliefs are:
• That we are all members of the human race and that we all have a right to benefit and contribute to equality which includes being treated with fairness and decency regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation
• That we all have a right and a responsibility to participate in, and contribute to, the wider society
• That our diversity is valuable and enriching of our community and wider society
• That equality is more than words on paper and that it must become real and practical at all levels
Our values and ways of working are:
• To work positively in all our working relationships to ensure we contribute to the positive energy required to address the challenges and opportunities of making equality real
• To be open to learning and development as an organisation that grows in confidence and effectiveness
• To develop mutually enriching relationships and partnerships with grass roots community, third sector, public, and business organisations in order to contribute to integrated solutions
• To be professional and strategically focused
• To be inclusive of all those who want to contribute positively to our purpose
• To deliver, develop, review and evaluate services that will maximise our contribution to our purpose
Our programmes are:
• Casework and policy development
• Conversations for change
• Community outreach and partnerships
• Critical friend role
• Campaigning and advocacy
• Capacity building that is contextualised
• Creating awareness of best practice
• Conflict resolution
• Communication advice and information sharing
• Creative arts for integration
