HMS Daring – the first of the Navy’s 21st-Century
destroyers – prepares to pass under the Erskine
Bridge spanning the Clyde on her maiden voyage.
Daring began sea trials off the west coast of
Scotland as the Government committed itself to
the other linchpin of the Fleet of tomorrow, two
‘super carriers’ – the largest warships to sail under
the White Ensign – which will enter service in a
decade’s time, carrying around three dozen Joint
Strike Fighters into battle.
