Security by
anti-counterfeiting
According to figures from the Alliance Against
Counterfeiting and Piracy, product piracy causes
an estimated annual cost to the world economy
higher than 1 trillion U.S. dollars.Trading standards
officers say manufacturers are the biggest losers.
Electronics Sourcing Europe explores a technology
that could help turn the tide.
In addition to lost revenue, fake goods are becoming increasingly
dangerous. Counterfeiters use sophisticated technology to replicate
products ranging from car parts to electronic systems. Most counterfeit
goods are substandard – but some are even lethal.
In the fight against counterfeiting, Hamburg-basedTesa Scribos has developed
the Holospot, a system designed to combat counterfeiting and ensure individual
product branding integrity and traceability. In the manufacturing sector, the Holospot
is being used by numerous companies including Continental Automotive, ContinentalTeves,
Gates Europe, and Federal Mogul.
