CONSULTANCY CONTRACTS: AMP4
Thames EARmarks drought plan
Thames Water Utilities commissioned Scott Wilson to complete
preliminary environmental assessment reports (EARs) for each
of its potential drought permit abstraction options as identified
in its draft drought plan. Thames Water has been using these
preliminary reports to prioritise baseline monitoring for AMP5
and complete its drought plan for publication in 2010.
Assessments were required for 23 options to enable Thames
Water to define potential impacts and prioritise a monitoring
programme to support any applications for permits during
future droughts. The options investigated included local
groundwater abstractions from the headwaters of the River
Thames, and each preliminary report identified:
Thames Water: preliminary reports
for AMP5
■ The main environmental receptors associated with each
drought permit abstraction and their sensitivity
■ Potential impact pathways between the abstraction and likelihood of use and environmental sensitivity
relevant receptors ■ An outline Environmental Monitoring Plan and Mitigation Plan
■ The environmental sensitivity of potentially affected for each Drought Permit option
receptors ■ Anticipated analysis that would be carried out when the full
■ A priority ranking of the Drought Permit options based on EAR is undertaken
