Greener driving
Cactus won’t drik you dry.
Citroën’s C-Cactus concept car was hailed as a new approach to eco-friendly design when it was unveiled last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Now Citroën are looking at putting the ultra-environmentally friendly car into production. Its radical design strips out
features that are non-essential to the running of the car or the comfort and safety of the occupants.
Even the dashboard goes in an interior which has around half the parts of a conventional car of a similar size. The door panels are made of just two parts, compared to the more usual 12 and many components are made from recycled materials.
The result is a lighter, less costly car which has less impact on the environment.
A range of engines are being looked at, including a 1-litre, sub 100g/km CO2, petrol; a HYmotion2 diesel–electric hybrid returning near 100mpg and CO2 emissions of just 78g/km or a 100% electric model, with zero emissions, a top speed of close on 70mph and a range of almost 100 miles.
