rig on schedule
A consortium consisting of Keppel Off shore & Marine
Ltd (Keppel O&M) and Technip Engenharia S/A is
on schedule to deliver the fl oating production unit
(FPU) P-51 to Petrobras Netherlands BV (PNBV) by
November 2008.
Th e FPU, weighing in at 48,000tonnes, is the second rig
of its type that the consortium partners have completed.
Th e fi rst rig, the FPU P-52, is currently producing oil in
the Roncador fi eld in the Campos Basin.
Th e new rigs will help to solidify Brazil’s growing
reputation as a net oil exporter and to revive the
country’s shipbuilding industry. The rigs will also
support Petrobras’ off shore oil exploration and produc-
tion activities, contributing signifi cantly towards Brazil’s
self-suffi ciency in the production of oil.
Th e christening of the rig was attended by the President
of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and First Lady, Marisa
Leticia Lula da Silva, who acted as Lady Sponsor, and
took place at Keppel FELS Brasil’s BrasFELS shipyard.
With the inclusion of the FPU P-51, Keppel’s projects
for Petrobras will contribute to a production capacity of
more than 1 million barrels of oil per day (bopd). Th is
represents more than 50% of Brazil’s present produc-
tion rate of 1.8 million bopd. It is expected that by 2010,
