Getting to work is easy for the T-Mobile team in Merthyr.

Travelling to the T-Mobile offices in Merthyr Tydfil is a stress-free experience for T-Mobile team members.

T-Mobile in Merthyr Tydfil employs over 750 staff at its vibrant airy contact centre. On site there is a subsidised restaurant, cyber café (with free internet access) and free tea andcoffee throughout the day.

Two members of T-Mobile’s Customer Service Advisors (CSA) team travel daily to the call centre in Rhyd-y-car Business Park in Merthyr Tydfil.

Stress Free

Rebecca Evans and Jackie Helyar both commute by car to Merthyr from Pontypridd and find that it’s a stress-free journey which takes around 20 minutes.

Rebecca comments: “ The journey gives me time to myself before I get to work. I’ve never experienced bad traffic, so it is an easy journey.”

She travels in on the A470 and prefers travelling to Merthyr than Cardiff.

“I used to work in Cardiff and the traffic was always dreadful. My commute would be at least one hour each way to travel such a short distance.”

Jackie agrees: ‘It’s great because I travel in the opposite direction to the traffic going into Cardiff and it took me three times as long for the same distance.”

Travelling options

Travelling to T-Mobile needn’t be by car. It’s just one hour by train from Cardiff central to Merthyr Tydfil and then it’s a short walk to the contact centre or there are frequent and reliable bus services to take advantage of.

There’s also a car share scheme organised by T-Mobile which is a perfect way to get to work if you live near a colleague on the same shift patterns as you. Not only does it cut down on the cost of petrol but it’s a greener way to get there, reducing the number of cars on the roads.

Excellent training

Being part of the CSA team means that Rebecca and Jackie talk to new and existing T-Mobile customers. This could involve giving advice to a customer on getting a new mobile phone, helping them with a technical question or an enquiry about their bill. Rebecca says: “To be a CSA you need to be good on the telephone and be able to deal with customer’s queries quickly and efficiently. T-Mobile gives excellent, ongoing training to make sure you give the best service.”

Jackie has been working with T-Mobile for three years now and explains what she enjoys about her job: “What makes T-Mobile so great is the people. I’ve worked in other call centres before but the environment here makes it a very relaxed, friendly place to work.

Feel at Home

She continues: “Some people think call centres are just for young people but I’d like to put the record straight because that’s absolutely not the case; I’m 59 and feel very at home here.”
