“Singer, guitarist, songwriter” is one

description given of Ani Difranco. Those
three words don’t come close to touching
her true essence, however, just as it
would be unfair to describe DaVinci as
a painter, sculptor and inventor. The
description, while accurate, comes up
well short of defining just who Ani is,
and the intangible qualities that help her
transcend the label of “musical artist” or
even “Grammy winner,” and bring her
much closer to “Legend.”
Born in Buffalo, NY, Ani’s start in music
may best be described as organic: Singing
at local bars and in impromptu sessions
on the streets around her home city,
recording her first album entirely on her
own and making the copies herself, and
finally, starting her own record label that
endures to this day on a budget almost
less than a tank of gas. From the start,
she has demonstrated unshakeable faith
in her music, having the self-confidence
to put her own life, emotion and beliefs
into her often pointed and witty work.
Ani’s truthful, intelligent and reflective
vocals, coupled with a tireless work ethic,
have not only earned Ani untold fans and
followers worldwide, but have cemented
her as a legend whose body of work will
help define the ‘90’s era on up to the
present, and beyond.
