xmoor is one of 14 areas of the United Kingdom
given the highest landscape protection and
designated as a National Park. Exmoor National Park
covers an area of 267 square miles (692 sq kms)
two thirds of which is in Somerset and a third in Devon.
As in most rural areas, village services are under threat. You can help by using local village
shops, pubs or post offices during your stay, some are also Local Information Points where
you can find out more information about the National Park (see page opposite for details).
Without your support many local people may lose the kind of services that many take for granted.
Exmoor is rich in hidden haunts where there is something for everyone, whether you are
looking for peace and tranquillity, plenty of activity – or a bit of both. Check out the diary
pages for hundreds of walks and events to enjoy throughout the year.
You’re never far from useful information in Exmoor National Park. If you need a hand to plan
a walk, a day out or how to get about without your car, call into one of our National Park
Centres and make sure that you get the most out of your stay. You’ll find contact details on
the page opposite. Our friendly and knowledgeable centre staff are there to help and will
provide an individual service to make sure that you have the visit of a lifetime. There is also
an independent visitor centre at Porlock that can assist you with accommodation bookings.
A wide range of books, maps, and leaflets are available at the Centres to guide you during
your stay and souvenirs for you to take home as a lasting impression of this special place.
