CONDITION
In order to help owners manage their dog’s weight in the absence of scales, we have
developed a condition score card. The visual guide below clearly demonstrates what is
deemed thin, ideal and overweight .
SCORING
If you would like to request a condition score card please contact the Chudleys Helpline.
Thin When your dog is thin…
Ribs are easily felt and seen, with no fat cover at the
base of the tail. The abdomen shows as a severe tuck
with an accentuated hour-glass shape.
Ideal
When your dog is the ideal weight…
Ribs should be easily felt but not seen. There should be a
smooth contour to the base of the tail, with a thin covering
of fat just allowing you to feel the bones. There should be
an abdominal (between ribs and hips) tuck revealing a true
waist when walking and standing.
Overweight
When your dog is overweight…
Ribs are impossible or very difficult to feel, your dog
has a thickened tail base and discernible bones and a
pendulous bulge where the waist should be. When viewed
from above his sides swell outwards.
