Disruptive
Behaviour
In-flight:
prevention on the
ground, training
in the air
Throughout the past few decades there has been a noticeable increase
in violent crime in society as a whole. This is demonstrated by street
muggings, city riots and school shootings, where we witness a lack of
care for the belongings, well-being and even lives of others. The lack of
patience with the pace and expectations of modern life is a social
phenomenon and the inconsiderate and rude attitude of certain
personality types can be magnified when they encounter the stresses
associated with air travel. Ultimately, the resulting behaviour can become
a serious threat to the safety and security of passenger flights. The
problem, as Berna Tanyolac discusses, needs to be addressed on the
ground whilst aircrew need to be trained to manage situations should
they arise in-flight.
