during a flood and fire fighters came out on top. In the course of
meetings with various fire crews I arrived at ‘‘How to improve the
efficiency of rescue in all weather conditions”. I followed many
tortuous paths. I had to take into account politics, the current
economic situation, the needs of individuals, and the comments
made by all the fire fighters, in order to arrive at this point.
The constant collaboration with the fire fighters helped me a
lot and resulted in the creation of ‘Blast’ – a product which allows
the emergency services to administer first aid to a victim in the best
possible conditions outside, whether it’s raining or not, and which
hides the operation from the stares of onlookers. The whole process
that went into creating ‘Blast’ makes it a product that has much
more social value and gives it a different sensitivity from all the other
products I have designed.
DESIGNER: IN whIch othER aREaS of DESIGN woulD you
moSt lIkE to havE thE oppoRtuNIty to woRk IN thE futuRE?
SENaNt: I think I have always retained within myself a large part
of childhood and in this sense the world of toys intrigues me a lot.
Ergonomics is an aspect of industrial design that cannot be neglected,
in particular where children are concerned as gripping ability is far
less developed than in adults. Working in a happy, colourful world
must be quite nice, especially for somebody like me who is constantly
scribbling characters on every corner of the page.
I am also particularly interested in the world of sport. Moreover, I
did my work experience at the end of my studies at Decathlon. It was
very educational and I would have liked to explore the world of sport
in more depth. It is a good combination of ergonomics, function,
technicality, aesthetics and fun.
But over the years I have realised that all of these worlds can
be fascinating and that it is not wise to make hasty judgements. I
am somebody who likes to express myself through drawing and if
this was taken away from me I would no longer have fun and the
