■ Child Benefit
If you have a child under 16, a child over 16 in relevant education
or training, or a child aged 16 or 17 who has left relevant training ag
or education but has registered for work, education or training
with an approved body then you can claim child benefit.
There are two amounts receivable - £18.80 per week for the
eldest child and £12.55 for other children. To claim you need to
fill in a Child Benefit claim form and send it to the Child Benefit

Office along with the child’s birth or adoption certificate. The
form is available for download from the HM Revenue and
Customs website: www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/ch2.pdf.

■ Bus Passes and Coach Travel
Anyone aged over 60 and resident in England is eligible for free
off–peak local bus travel using a national bus pass. Off–peak
travel is classed as 9.30am – 11pm, Monday to Friday, and any
time on weekends and public holidays. In Wales and Scotland,
the pass can be used at any time of day.

For England and Wales, you need to apply to your local
authority council, who are responsible for the issuing of passes.
In Scotland the scheme is run by Transport Scotland, offering
free bus and long distance scheduled coach service. Further
details can be downloaded online at:
www.transportscotland.gov.uk/concessionarytravel.
In Northern Ireland, those aged over 65 are eligible for free
bus and train travel. Further details are available online at:
www.translink.co.uk/seniorcitizenpass.asp.
If you are currently eligible for a bus pass, you may also find
that you qualify for ‘routesixty’ fares on the National Express
coach network in England and Wales. These discounts are up
to half price on most National Express services.
■ Free TV licence
If you are currently aged over 75 then you can get a free TV
licence for your main home by telephoning 0844 800 6790.
Concessions are also available for those who are registered blind
and also for people who live in residential care homes.
