■ statutory Adoption Pay (sAP)
A weekly payment from your employer to help take time off work
when adopting a child. To claim you must have been matched with ag
a child by an adoption agency, have worked for the same employer
for at least 26 weeks and earning at least £90 per week before tax.
SAP is paid at a rate of £117.18 or 90% of weekly earnings, if this
is less, for up to 39 weeks. It is normally paid in the same way and
time as your wages and is subject to tax and national insurance
e ele
deductions. You must give your employer evidence from the
adoption agency such as a matching certificate.
■ Maternity Allowance (MA)
If you are pregnant or have a new baby and do not qualify for
Statutory Maternity Pay, you may be eligible for Maternity
Allowance. MA pays a standard rate of £117.18 or 90% of gross
weekly earnings, whichever is lower, and paid for up to 39 weeks.

obtain by calling 0800 055 6688 or you can download it from:

■ sure start Maternity Grant
If you are on a low income and in receipt of Income Support, income
based JSA, Pension Credit, Higher Rate Child Tax Credit or Working
Tax Credit with the disability or severe disability element included,
you may be eligible for the Sure Start maternity Grant. This grant is
a one-off payment of £500 to help towards the costs of having a new
baby. To claim, contact Jobcentre Plus or download the application
form from the Department for Work and Pensions website:

■ industrial injuries disablement Benefit (accidents)
You may be eligible if you were employed at the time of the
accident and it took place in England, Wales or Scotland. The
amount you receive depends on your age and the seriousness of
the disability, assessed by a doctor on a scale from 20% to 100%.
The amount received ranges from £16.77 per week for under 18s
with no dependants on an assessed disability level of 20%, to
