■ Nurses are accustomed
to serving on the front lines of
the health care delivery system.
It’ssomething they do every time
they go to work, with every patient
they see.
But some Indiana nurses knowwhat
it’s like to serve on the real frontlines as
members of the U.S. armed forces. In honor
of Veterans Day, we talked to severalIndiana
nurses with militarybackgrounds. Some
had been deployedtocombat zones suchas
Vietnam and Iraq, while others had served
their countryduring peace time.
Regardless of their experience,theyagreed
on onething:Their militarybackground makes
them better nurses —and better people.
