Tasha Danvers, winner of the
olympic bronze medal in the women’s 400m
hurdles, was sevenoaks Prep school’s guest of
honour at the thomas trophy 2008 last month.
the annual thomas trophy Cross Country
event is the largest of its type in the south-east;
this is the twenty-sixth year that sevenoaks
Prep has hosted the races. 650 children from
Kent schools arrived in brilliant sunshine with
six races being run across three age groups. at
2.00pm Tasha opened the event by firing the
starter’s gun for the first race (right) and she also
awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals as
the winner crossed the line.
“tasha willingly shared her time and bronze
medal with children, teachers and parents, and
was truly an inspiration to all who met her,”
said headmaster Philip oldroyd. “she was able
to talk to the children at their level – whatever
their age, and they warmed to her easy-going
style immediately”.
the olympic race was shown at the school
assembly with the children applauding
energetically. tasha shared her experiences and
offered advice on how to avoid getting nervous,
